Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee
The Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee provides independent advice to Council on governance, risk management, internal controls and performance improvement.
As required under section 428A of the Local Government Act 1993, the role of Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) is to review and provide independent advice to AlburyCity regarding the following aspects of AlburyCity’s operations:
- Compliance
- Risk management
- Fraud control
- Financial management
- Governance
- Implementation of the strategic plan, delivery program and strategies
- Service reviews
- Collection of performance measurement data by AlburyCity, and
internal audit.
ARIC must also provide information to AlburyCity for the purpose of improving AlburyCity’s performance of its functions.
Membership of the Committee includes independent external members with experience in audit, financial management, business management or law, and Councillor representatives.
The Committee operates in accordance with its Terms of Reference. Among other functions, the Committee scrutinises Council's internal audit activities, which operate in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter.
The Committee consists of:
- Independent Chairperson; voting member
- Three (3) independent voting members; and
- Councillor member - Cr Butkowski: Non-voting member
- Cr Kylie King: alternate councillor member
Internal Audit
The Committee is supported within Council by the Internal Audit function. The primary purpose of the Internal Audit function is to efficiently and effectively provide independent and objective assurance to the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee and management of Council that key controls over areas of highest risk are operating efficiently and effectively and to offer an advisory service.
Meetings
ARIC meets at least four times per year including a special meeting to review Council's Financial Statements. ARIC meetings are confidential and closed to the general public.
