Election signage requirements
Council provides this information to help election candidates comply with requirements for displaying election signage on Council-managed land and public places. Signage that does not comply with these requirements may be removed by Council.
Election signage and electoral matter are regulated under:
- COMMONWEALTH ELECTORAL ACT 1918
- State Environmental Planning Policy (Exempt and Complying Development Codes) 2008 - NSW Legislation
Be installed on private property without the written consent of the property owner, unless the candidate is a joint owner of the property.
Prohibited signage
Election signage must not:
- Be displayed on Variable Message Signs (VMS).
- Be attached to Council-owned assets.
- Be placed on public land, public trees or public places managed by AlburyCity.
- Be installed without the written consent of the property owner.

Heritage buildings
Election signage must not be attached to buildings on heritage or draft heritage sites.
Display period
Election signage may only be displayed:
- Eight weeks before election day.
- On election day.
- One week after election day.
