Cheers! The hidden history of Albury’s Vineyards
This exhibition explored Albury’s unique wine history, the impact this had on the region and its part in Australia’s wine development.
During the mid to late 1800s, Albury was one of the biggest producers of wine in Australia. Frauenfelder, Rau and Schubach arrived in 1851 and planted their vineyards in Kiewa Street, while James Fallon travelled far and wide putting Albury wines on the world map. From then Albury was a wine destination competing on the world stage. Our streets, buildings and land around us are steeped in this history, but do we see it?
This exhibition brought together decades of research to showcase this significant yet hidden part of Albury’s and Australia’s history.
