Venue

There are a number of facilities for hire at Lavington Sports Ground available for community, club and school bookings.

The state-of-the-art sporting precinct hosts local, regional, state and national carnivals and community sport across a wide range of sporting codes. The precinct also includes a modern function centre, including a semi- commercial kitchen, bar and function room overlooking the main oval.

The venue also has two elite standard sporting fields, cricket nets, pitches, velodrome, netball courts, a huge undercover grandstand and amenities building.

The LSG hosts major sporting events including the Big Bash Cricket, NRL and AFL exhibition matches and has been home to many junior sporting stars that have represented their codes at a national level..

Most recently, LSG hosted AFL preseason matches (Sydney v St Kilda and Richmond v Port Adelaide), an A-League match between Melbourne Heart and Perth Glory in 2014, NRL Round 5 (Manly v Canberra) in 2015 and Big Bash game between Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars in 2016 and 2017 Women’s Big Bash (Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Stars).

The LSG is home to the Lavington Panthers Football Netball Club, Lavington Panthers Cricket Club, Lavington Panthers Junior Football Club and the Lavington Panthers Cycling Club. The facility is owned and operated by AlburyCity.

Getting here

Positioned in the middle of the Melbourne-Sydney-Canberra triangle, Albury Wodonga is easily accessible by road, rail or air. Albury Airport is conveniently located 5km from the centre of Albury and offers regular direct flights weekly to and from Sydney and Melbourne.

Albury-Wodonga are two vibrant cities, situated on the border of NSW and Victoria. The cities are is home to the winding Murray River, Lake Hume and an array of cultural icons, contemporary museums, and linkages to migrant history and indigenous people. With a population over 100,000, Albury Wodonga is one of the nation’s largest inland communities.

Albury-Wodonga has an abundance of accommodation, clubs, eateries and public transport, and is close to snowfields and wine regions. There is a wide range of transport options to move around the cities, including: taxis, Uber, public buses, chauffeured limousines or rental hire (Thrifty, Avis Car and Truck Rentals).

Located just one block from the City Centre, the Railway Precinct serves as the city’s transport hub. NSW TrainLink and V/Line have daily rail services connecting Albury Wodonga with Melbourne and Sydney.

Coach services (NSW TrainLink, V/Line, bus lines) connect the cities with an abundance of destinations.

Albury Wodonga is an easy drive from major capital cities along the M31 Hume Freeway. For those outside of the capital cities, the Riverina, Olympic and Murray Valley Highways all lead to Albury.

Lavington Sports Ground has three free car parks, a loading dock and disabled parking located in the Centaur Road car park.

There is wheelchair seating located on level 4, grandstand and lifts at the main entry.

Wheelchair accessible toilets are on levels 2 and 4.

Carnivals

The Lavington Sports Ground has everything to host a regional, state or national carnival.

With large, flexible playing surfaces that can be arranged to host all sporting codes and a venue that can hold up to 12,000 people, LSG is perfect for regional, state and national carnivals. Carnival organisers may bring in external food vendors and or hire the kiosks fully staffed or to self-staff.

The venue has all the facilities that make it ideal for running multiple games and hosting large groups of competitors and spectators including:
  • Up to eight change rooms
  • Function room fully equipped with Audio Visual system
  • Dedicated medical rooms
  • Ample car and bus parking
  • Three kiosks and commercial kitchen on site
  • Spectator seating for over 12,000
  • Close to accommodation and town amenities

In previous years, the venue has hosted the Kookaburra, Bradman, Giants, and Paul Kelly Cups, fostering junior sport at all levels.

Hire fees and charges

An innovative way to support our commercial and community clients with a range of flexible hire charges.

The hire fees and charges encompass all facilities and rooms at LSG. The fees and charges are structured for commercial, community and individual use. Three-day hire fees apply for large commercial events, taking bump-in and out into consideration.

A security bond and cleaning fees will be applicable for some event bookings.

The grandstand building, overlooking the main oval, has been designed and built with state-of-the-art inclusions that make it one of the best sporting venues in regional NSW. The building can be hired for exclusive use and used for carnivals, conferences and elite sporting events.

The grandstand building features include:

  • A grandstand facing the main oval with undercover seating for 1,800 people

Located in the grandstand building, the function room boasts floor to ceiling glass windows overlooking the main oval. The function room accommodates 208 people, providing a warm, intimate atmosphere.

Perfect for small conferences, parties, meetings, dinners, luncheons, seminars and forums, the function room provides a perfect backdrop for any event.

It is complemented by full technical facilities with expert technical support available.

The amenities building, located between the two playing fields, allows for patrons and players to be catered for on ground 2 without having to walk to the main grandstand building.

This building hosts:

  • Two sets of change rooms
  • Toilets with separate disabled spaces
  • Two sets of umpires’ change rooms
  • Kiosk and storage
  • Two full-size oval playing arenas for sports such as cricket and AFL, or three rectangular fields which can be activated simultaneously to host codes such as soccer, rugby league, rugby union, and touch football. The grounds can also be hired for group training sessions (gyms and other sporting codes)
  • Tiered seating on the Pearsall Street side for 12,000 people
  • Netball court
  • Four synthetic and three turf practice cricket wickets
  • Lighting on the main field to 500 lux and to 200 lux on the second field
  • Electronic scoreboard (25sqm) capable of running advertising during game
  • A smaller electronic scoreboard (14sqm) on Ground 2
  • Coaches’ benches and undercover on-ground team seating
  • Two further kiosk facilities
  • A cycling velodrome with lighting, surrounding a practice netball court
