Albury hosts major 2025 LGNSW Water Management Conference

AlburyCity has welcomed hundreds of delegates from across New South Wales for the 2025 Local Government NSW (LGNSW) Water Management Conference (9 to 11 September).

10 Sep 2025

The annual conference has brought together councillors, general managers, water utility experts, policy makers, researchers and industry professionals to explore the latest technical innovations, challenges and opportunities in water governance, supply and sewerage services.

Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said it was a privilege for the city to once again host the event, having welcomed delegates in 2019.

“Being chosen to host this conference again reflects Albury’s reputation as both a leader in water management and a destination for major industry gatherings,” Mayor Mack said.

“Our location on the Murray River places us right at the centre of Australia’s water story. Here in Albury, we are making significant investments in our water infrastructure to secure a sustainable, resilient future for our community. This includes major upgrades to our water and sewer networks, and long-term planning to meet the needs of a growing population.”

While in Albury, delegates will tour key sites including the Main Water Pump Station, Waterview Wastewater Treatment Plant and Wonga Wetlands, gaining a first-hand look at how the city is managing water resources, supporting biodiversity and delivering essential services.

President of Local Government NSW (LGNSW) Mayor Phyllis Miller OAM said the annual conference was a critical forum for collaboration and innovation for councils and water utilities.

“Water security continues to be a critical issue facing our communities, so it’s one of LGNSW’s most important areas of advocacy. Councils need to do all they can to ensure that climate volatility doesn’t disrupt our way of life,” Mayor Miller said.

“Albury is a beautiful river city that sits on the Murray River within the Murray-Darling Basin, so I know their council is keenly aware of the challenges and opportunities presented by water management,” she said.

“We encourage delegates to experience our region and to join the conversation about building stronger, more water-secure communities across NSW,” Mayor Mack concluded.
