Albury’s AMP Lane in the running for NSW’s Favourite Urban Place

The hunt for New South Wales’ favourite laneway is on, and one of Albury’s hidden gems has made the cut.

29 Oct 2025

AMP Lane has been shortlisted in the Urban Design Association of NSW’s annual search for NSW’s Favourite Urban Place.

The public poll celebrates civic laneways that turn everyday spaces into lively, people-centred destinations. AMP Lane is in fine company, alongside laneways in Goulburn, Lane Cove, Manly, Haymarket, Newcastle and Wollongong.

Tucked just off Dean Street, AMP Lane has become a favourite spot for locals and visitors alike. Lined with cafés, bars and boutique shops, it adds to the vibrancy of Albury’s city centre. Created in 1881 and framed by elegant heritage façades, the laneway blends history, character and contemporary urban life.

AlburyCity Community and Place Service Leader Simona Coad said AMP Lane’s mix of culture, hospitality and design makes it a standout.

“AMP Lane is full of life – from the cafés and specialty stores by day to the illuminated lightboxes that transform it at night. Twice a year the Laneway Lightbox Open Air Gallery brings new artworks to the space, keeping it fresh, creative and engaging. It’s a place that reflects Albury’s character – welcoming, walkable and always evolving,” Ms Coad said.

Across the state, many shortlisted laneways have been revitalised with public art, greenery and seating – small touches that turn simple connections into destinations.

“AMP Lane’s inclusion reflects Albury’s growing reputation for creating inviting urban spaces that encourage people to connect, linger and enjoy their city,” Ms Coad added.

Voting in the ‘NSW’s Favourite Urban Place’ poll is open until 1 November.
