Bunton Park’s next chapter: Help us shape the master plan

For 63 years, North Albury’s Bunton Park has played host to a multitude of sporting moments. Now, we’re inviting you to help shape the next chapter of this well-used public space, as part of a proposed update to the park’s master plan.

06 Aug 2025

The original master plan, endorsed by Council in 2020, outlined a long-term vision to improve the park’s infrastructure while retaining the former licensed club building for continued use by the North Albury Sports Club Ltd.

Following the club’s administration and lease surrender in mid-2020, the building became available for broader community use. A condition assessment in 2021 confirmed the structure remains sound and suitable for repurposing.

Rather than proceed with building a second pavilion, originally proposed in the 2020 plan, AlburyCity has worked closely with user groups to explore how the existing building could be adapted to meet changing community needs in a more cost-effective and sustainable way.

A preliminary draft building concept plan has now been developed, which includes:

  • New and accessible public toilets
  • A modern canteen integrated into the current function space
  • Indoor/outdoor spectator viewing areas
  • Improved storage facilities

Mayor Kevin Mack said the revised approach reflected both practical constraints and the park’s continuing importance to the community.

“We’re asking the community to share their views on a concept plan that aims to deliver real improvements without starting from scratch,” he said.

“Bunton Park has been the home of multi-sports in North Albury for many years, and this is an opportunity to ensure it continues to meet the needs of the people who use it. Community feedback will be vital in helping us get the balance right.”

The preliminary draft concept also proposes several changes to the original master plan:

  • Removing the proposed internal service road and roundabout
  • Relocating the second netball court to reduce encroachment on the Logan Road Park off-leash area
  • Retaining the existing cricket nets, with the North Albury Cricket Club indicating interest in relocating training to Thurgoona while continuing to play matches at Bunton Park
  • Retaining the North Albury Bowling Club in its current location, with minor upgrades to support future use

These updates are designed to better align with current user group requirements and reduce impacts on the adjacent Logan Road Park off-leash area.

To ensure the revised master plan reflects local needs and priorities, AlburyCity will meet with the Bunton Park user groups individually, and is seeking feedback from nearby residents and the broader community.

Come along and chat with our team at two pop up sessions at the Logan Road Park off-leash area:

  • Saturday, 16 August (10am-12pm)
  • Thursday, 21 August (10am-12pm)

You can also have your say online via the Engaging Albury platform

Consultation closes on Friday 29 August 2025. Once finalised, the revised master plan will be presented to Council for consideration, before being placed on public exhibition.
