Carols by Candlelight returns to light up Albury
Albury will sparkle with music and candlelight when Carols by Candlelight returns to QEII Square on Wednesday, 17 December 2025 from 6pm, continuing our tradition of coming together to connect and celebrate as a community.
Families and friends are invited to gather in the heart of the city for an evening of carols, live performance and shared celebration, as AlburyCity’s much-loved Christmas custom transform the square into a free open-air concert under the summer sky.
Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said the evening creates an atmosphere that defines the season.
“Carols by Candlelight is one of the occasions each year where the city comes together,” Mayor Mack said.
“It is an opportunity to spend time in the centre of Albury, enjoy live music and share an evening that has become part of how our community marks the Christmas period.”
This year’s program blends traditional favourites with contemporary arrangements, performed by a line-up that pairs well-known voices with local talent.
Returning to the Albury stage is 2025 Australian Idol runner-up Iilysh Retallick, joined by fellow Top 10 finalist John Van Beek. The line-up also features musician Arthur Hull, singer-songwriter Bec Randall of Empress + Aces, and a showcase of talented local dancers.
Mayor Mack said the event remains an important platform for regional performers.
“Carols by Candlelight is a chance to showcase our local artists in front of a large audience and celebrate the depth of talent across our region,” he said.
“Our performers bring extraordinary energy to this stage. Their efforts, supported by staff, volunteers and technical crews, make it possible for this event to remain open and accessible to everyone.”
For families, the night promises more than music, with Santa Claus set to make a special appearance and various food providers serving festive fare throughout the evening.
Visitors to the city over the Christmas period are also warmly welcomed.
Albury City Band will kick off the pre-show entertainment at 6pm, followed by the official Carols program from 7pm to 9pm. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic rug or chair and arrive early to secure a good viewing spot.
To ensure everyone can enjoy this event, the event will include wheelchair access with ramps along the concourse, Auslan interpretation for the hearing impaired and a low sensory zone. There will also be a designated accessible viewing area for attendees who require additional support.
