Free training sessions kick off countdown to Gindaymanha 2026
Young people across the region are invited to lace up their boots and get involved, with free touch football training sessions kicking off in the lead-up to the 2026 Gindaymanha Sports Carnival.
Starting from Monday 9 March at local parks across the Albury Local Government Area, the free sessions are open to beginners and experienced players alike from the ages of 9-15 years. Designed to build skills, confidence and connection, the training provides young people with a relaxed and supportive environment to learn the fundamentals of touch football, meet new friends and prepare for the big day. Participants are welcome to attend casually and take part at their own pace.
The training sessions will culminate in the 10th annual Gindaymanha Sports Carnival on Wednesday 15 April 2026 — a vibrant day of friendly competition, teamwork and community spirit.
The event takes its name from the Wiradjuri word Gindaymanha, meaning “fair play”, reflecting the values that define the carnival: fun, fairness and friendship for all. The day provides a safe and inclusive space where young people can enjoy sport, strengthen social connections and proudly represent their local area.
Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said the initiative plays an important role in supporting the health and wellbeing of local young people.
“The free training sessions make it easy for young people of all skill levels to get involved, learn something new and feel confident participating,” Mayor Mack said.
“Gindaymanha is about more than sport — it’s about creating a welcoming space where our youth can connect, stay active and feel part of their community.”
Beyond the touch football action, families can enjoy a range of free entertainment and creative activities on the day, including a live DJ, arts and crafts, dance competitions, jewellery-making workshops and more. Free food and drinks will be available for all participants.
