Help shape the AlburyCity Play Space Strategy
Albury City Council is reviewing its network of neighbourhood play spaces and is inviting the community to share feedback on what matters most now and into the future.
Albury is home to a large and diverse network of play spaces - around three times the national benchmark. As the city grows and community needs change, Council is taking a fresh look at how play spaces are planned, renewed and used to ensure future investment delivers the greatest benefit.
Many older play spaces no longer meet contemporary expectations for accessibility, safety, shade, comfort or inclusive play. This review provides an opportunity to rethink how parks and playgrounds can better support social connection, physical activity and shared use by people of all ages and abilities.
Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said community input would play a central role in shaping Council’s long-term approach to play spaces across the city.
“Our play spaces are an important part of neighbourhood life, and we want to make sure they continue to meet the needs of our growing and changing community,” Mayor Mack said.
“This review is about listening to residents and understanding what they value most - whether that’s accessibility, inclusive design, amenities or opportunities for different age groups to use spaces together. That feedback will help guide where and how we invest in the future.”
Community feedback will help guide a long-term AlburyCity Play Space Strategy. It will help Council understand what residents value in their local play spaces, identify where upgrades, renewals or new play spaces may be needed across the city, and explore opportunities for intergenerational play, while considering:
- Accessibility and inclusivity
- Modern, safe and engaging play opportunities
- Shade, seating and supporting amenities
- Play spaces which reflect the character and needs of local neighbourhoods and support social connection
The strategy will also address oversupply and prioritise future investment where it will have the most impact and establish clear principles to guide play space planning across Albury.
Residents are encouraged to share how they currently use play spaces, what works well and where improvements could be made.
Community feedback will be considered alongside technical assessments and future planning needs to inform a draft AlburyCity Play Space Strategy. The draft will be released for further public comment before it’s finalised.
