New exhibition brings fresh perspectives to AMP Lane lightboxes

Albury’s AMP Laneway lightboxes have been transformed with a new six-month exhibition which brings colour, scale and stories into the laneway.

11 Dec 2025

Threads of Belonging invites people to slow down as they pass through the precinct and take in works that examine how identity, memory, resilience and community shape lived experience.

The exhibition features four artists working across painting, ceramics, digital collage, photography and installation. Their works move between the personal and the collective, offering different ways of seeing connection and place.

AlburyCity’s Team Leader, Cultural Activation, Karyn Ford said AMP Lane’s latest exhibition highlights the value of art in public spaces.

"It gives everyone the chance to experience inspiring work, engage with the stories behind it, and see our city in a new way."

The open-air gallery features the work of:

Lisa Clarke

Albury photojournalist Lisa Clarke presents Champions, a portrait series celebrating five local Special Olympians. Large-scale works combine photography and graphic design with the athletes’ own words, highlighting resilience and inclusive representation. Clarke’s two-decade career includes exhibitions at major festivals and publications across ABC News, The Guardian Australia and The New York Times.

Melissa Baird

Border-based mixed media artist Melissa Baird contributes works shaped by almost four decades of practice across painting, sculpture and decorative arts. Using acrylics, watercolour, resin and clay, she builds bold, layered surfaces that reflect joy, resilience and community. Motifs such as the eagle and the tree of life appear throughout her work, symbolising strength, growth and shared humanity.

Si Yi Shen

Si Yi Shen, based in Magandjin (Brisbane), works across digital collage, moving image, projection and installation. Her practice explores identity and intercultural belonging, with her ongoing series Mother’s Bloom examining how families maintain bonds across distance. Her recent work includes projects for Bathurst Regional Gallery, Platform Arts Geelong, the Australian National Maritime Museum and Sydney Festival.

Jayanto Tan

Gadigal/Sydney-based artist Jayanto Tan, originally from North Sumatra, blends mythology, personal narrative and cultural traditions through ceramics, installation and performance. His work reflects on identity, queerness, colonialism and belonging, informed by his experience as a “minority in minority” immigrant artist. His recent residency at the Pumphouse in Albury expanded this exploration through shared stories, recipes and performance.

Threads of Belonging is now on display in AMP Lane, which was recently voted runner-up in the Urban Design Association of NSW’s Favourite Urban Place poll.
