Youth Councillors advocate for local young people, contribute to Council plans and programs, and represent youth views on issues that matter. Members build practical leadership skills, gain experience working with decision-makers, and collaborate on projects that support the community.

Recent initiatives have included the planning and delivery of youth wellness event WellFest in the Albury Botanic Gardens, Community Connect Pop-Ups, involvement in the music development project Kool Skools album launch at Retro Lane Café, and the creation of the Retro Connect Card which provides vital information about local youth service providers.

The 2025 Youth Council, led by Youth Mayor Siahn O’Sullivan and Deputy Youth Mayor Ammar Syed, delivered a strong year of advocacy and events.

“Youth Council gives you a real say in what happens in our community. It’s a chance to build confidence, develop leadership skills and help deliver projects that matter,” said Youth Mayor Siahn O’Sullivan.

Ammar was selected to participate in the NSW Youth Parliament, appointed to the Rural and Regional Development Committee, and advocated for improved wheelchair access and youth involvement in program design.

There are 14 positions available for 2026, including Youth Mayor, Deputy Youth Mayor, Secretary and Treasurer. Positions are for a 12-month term.

To apply, complete the nomination form, available on Council’s website, and submit by Friday, 27 February 2026.

Join the city’s youth leaders and help create a stronger, more connected community.
