Tender awarded for Albury Airport taxiway extension
Albury City Council last night awarded the contract for the extension of Taxiway Alpha at Albury Airport to local company Excell Gray Bruni Pty Ltd, for a tendered price of $2.88 million.
The Wodonga-based firm brings extensive experience across a wide range of civil infrastructure projects for both public and private sector clients.
The project forms part of the Albury Airport Master Plan 2018, which identified the Taxiway Alpha extension as a key priority to improve aircraft circulation and reduce delays caused by backtracking on the runway. Once complete, the upgrade will improve operational efficiency, safety and capacity for both commercial and emergency aviation services.
Mayor Kevin Mack said the project reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting regional growth and resilience.
“Albury Airport is a vital transport hub that supports commercial flights, defence activities, aeromedical operations and firefighting response across southern NSW and north-east Victoria,” Mayor Mack said.
“By extending Taxiway Alpha, we’re enhancing the airport’s efficiency and safety while supporting future growth and ensuring the facility continues to serve the region’s needs for years to come.”
The project will extend Taxiway Alpha by approximately 300 metres to the western threshold of the runway, including bulk earthworks, stormwater and subsoil drainage, subgrade stabilisation, pavement and asphalt construction, electrical works and line marking.
The works form part of the broader Albury Airport Western Precinct Expansion Project, which has received $5 million in Australian Government funding under a funding deed with the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.
This funding supports several key airport upgrades, including the Western Precinct Master Plan, the detailed design and construction of the Taxiway Alpha extension, and a new Emergency Service Aerial Support Apron. Together, these developments will reduce aircraft taxiing times, improve emergency response capability and strengthen Albury Airport’s role as a critical regional aviation hub.
Construction is expected to commence early next year and run for approximately 15 weeks.
