This sculpture is an acknowledgement to our King of birds – Guguburra. Undoubtedly, the most beautiful budyaan (bird) in Wiradjuri country!

It is good to understand the wonderful attributes and character of these birds.

How their speckled blue feathers become more vibrant when rain is on the way.

The female has brown feathers at the top of her tail and the male has blue.

Their flight path is direct, knowing exactly where they want to go.

Guguburra is patient and kind. He will often let others before him but will defend his ground if required. He loves to laugh and reminds us to do so each day. He travels in family groups, is loyal, but sometimes ventures out alone to visit a friend and sing them a beautiful song.

Gugugu..Bababa..Hahahaa!

Guguburra shows us a wonderful way to live our lives – with joy, balance and patience.

This story was gifted to Peter by a wonderful friend as the Guguburra’s are her totem spirit.
