Fredericks Park upgrade

This project will expand the play area and play opportunities for children of all ages.

Complete

The construction works are now complete and temporary fencing removed. The park is now open to the Community. An official opening was held on  28 October 2024.

The Fredericks Park Master Plan [5.81 MB | PDF] was endorsed by Council in April 2021. The master plan includes upgrading the play space with the following elements.

  • Bicycle Education Track – a new designated space for children learning to ride, with signage, intersections and challenges;
  • Scooter & Bicycle Skills and Play – to allow children to explore and improve a mix of skills including bumps, slopes, varied surfaces and skate elements;
  • Outdoor Fitness Zone – will include a range of static outdoor strength and conditioning equipment;
  • Nature Play Area – to be constructed around the turtle sculpture and include new garden beds and stepping stones;
  • Kick Around  Grass Area – a flat area of irrigated lawn for informal ball sports;
  • Junior and Toddler Play Areas – new age-appropriate play areas for smaller children;
  • Enhanced Plantings and Landscaping – extension of plantings, seating and pathways.
  • Outdoor Basketball Area

A three-stage construction program is included in the master plan.

Funding was allocated in the 2022-23 budget to complete the detailed design for all three play space stages while construction funding has been allocated in the 2023-24 budget.

Grant funding has been obtained for the project

  • Australian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Fund ($1.7M)
  • NSW Government’s Local Small Commitment Allocation (LSCA) Program (268K).

27 September 2024

The final landscaping works have been completed this week with the fencing removed today. The park is now open for community use.

The main construction works are complete. The last of the rubber soffall has been laid and the replacement net structure erected. The final finishing landscape works are nearing completion.

18 August 2024

Construction is in the final stages with the last play area underway. The turtle artwork has been moved and integrated into the main play space. Pathway construction and landscaping continues. The rubber softfall areas have been prepared.

Construction of pathway connection from Bungambrawatha  Trail has commenced while works continues in the fitness zone and learn to ride area.

Works continues on the scooter and bicycle skill area. Seating wall around basket swing is nearing completion while play elements have started to arrive on site.

19 April 2024

Works continues on the scooter and bicycle skills and play area. Shade structure poles have been installed and construction of the BBQ shelter has commenced.  Landscape and pathway construction continues.

29 March 2024

On-ground works have started last week. Demolition well underway while construction of the scooter and bicycle skills and play area has commenced.

1 December 2023

An inception meeting was held with the contractor in November.  On-ground works are scheduled to commence in early 2024.

9 October 2023

Construction tender awarded to Enviro Culture Services Pty Ltd.

1 August 2023

Detailed design is complete and constuction tender advertised, closing 22 August 2023.

17 December 2022

Spiire has been engaged to complete the detailed design for the project. The design process is nearing completion with construction tender to be advertised in early 2023.
