Enhancing Albury Airport’s Capacity

Albury Airport serves as a critical hub for various aviation industries, including aircraft maintenance, Regular Public Transport (RPT), and emergency services such as aerial firefighting and aeromedical operations. Centrally located within the region, the airport is a vital transport link that contributes significantly to both state and national resilience.

As part of the Albury Airport Master Plan 2018, the Taxiway Charlie Extension project is a strategic initiative aimed at improving the airport's operational capacity and efficiency. This extension will span approximately 426 meters, connecting Taxiway Charlie to the eastern turning node of Runway 25. By reducing aircraft backtracking on the eastern end of the runway, the project will streamline aircraft movements, enhancing overall efficiency.

Key features of the project include:

• Construction Details: A 50mm asphalt surface with integrated infrastructure, including advanced drainage systems, taxiway lighting, and precise line marking.
• Phased Approach: The project will be executed in six stages, starting with site establishment and progressing through the construction of sealed surfaces, taxiway extension, runway connections, installation of above-ground lighting, and line marking, culminating in final commissioning.
• Minimising Disruptions: To ensure continuity of airport operations during construction, works are carefully planned and coordinated. Daylight hours will be the primary construction period, with limited night works scheduled during Stage 4 for the runway tie-in. Aircraft movements will be managed in close collaboration with Airport Reporting Officers and Works Safety Officers.

This upgrade represents a key component of Albury Airport’s broader infrastructure development strategy, designed to support future growth and evolving operational needs. The project is on track for completion in March 2025, with commissioning set for April 2025.

Once completed, the Taxiway Charlie Extension will reinforce Albury Airport’s role as a key regional gateway, enhancing its capacity to manage increased air traffic while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.
